Tomorrow, 1 April, we’re all going to see a bunch of our bills increase, so I thought it a good idea to give some information on what to expect if you’re not already aware, and a few tips for managing the price increases.
Summary
Let’s start with an overview of what bills are going up:
| Bill Increasing | Average monthly increase | Average annual increase | Annual percentage increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gas & Electric | £9.25 | £111.00 | +6.4% |
| Council Tax | £9.08 | £109.00 | +5% |
| Broadband | £3.50 | £42.00 | +6.4% |
| Water | £10.25 | £123.00 | +26% |
| Mobile Phone | £1.80 | £21.60 | +6.4% |
| Total | £33.88 | £406.60 |
The above table only shows UK averages, this isn’t going to translate to being accurate for most people. The Energy price rises will depend on your normal usage levels, the water price increase can be as high as 47% if you’re with Southern Water, and mobile phone and broadband increases are percentage based if you took your contract out before 17 January 2025 and exact figures if you took your contract out after 17 January, so please only use the table above as a rough guide at best.
Let’s look a little more into each price increase and how you can mitigate some of them.
