The petition calling for Ofgem to give us back our £4bn has reached over 48,000 signatures, which is fantastic. Back in April 2025, we ran a campaign where we sent Ofgem over 300 emails informing them of the petition and calling for the following three actions:
- Open a public consultation immediately on the most effective and just way to return this money to consumers;
- Consider, as an option in the consultation, a temporary reduction in standing charges—equivalent to the £130 overpayment per household;
- Commit to principles of fairness and accountability that apply equally to businesses and consumers.
However, Ofgem have not responded. Not to the petition, nor to the 300+ emails they received. They did send an automated message that informed us all that they would reply within 10 working days, but seeing as it has been over 10 weeks without any acknowledgment, I think it’s time we got our local MPs involved.
How to contact you local MP and what to send
To find out who your local MP is, you can use the use this website: https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP
This will also give you their postcode, don’t forget that most MPs require you to put your personal address in the email somewhere to prove you’re one of their constituents.
Once you’ve got their email, you can send them the letter below. PLEASE OPEN TO WORD DOCUMENT, FILL IN YOUR MPs DETAILS AT THE START OF THE LETTER AND YOUR DETAILS AT THE END.
I usually ask for you to CC me in, so I can see how many emails have been sent, but when it comes to MPs you’d be sending me your personal address details as well. I do not store those details, nor do I use them at all, generally I just ignore them, but I also understand that it is uncomfortable to give these details to people if they are not needed.
